memories of 2010

Wow!  This past year was full of wonderful times and I took a lot of photos of it all!  Here are some of my favorites from 2010.
It snowed for the second winter in a row.  That’s just crazy for Baton Rouge!  Mason made a cute snowman despite his lack of experience.

We spent a few days in New Orleans while G was working there last summer.

Canoeing down the Buffalo River in Arkansas was so much fun, and it was great to visit with dear friends that moved there last year!

We spent a whole lot of time in Montpelier.  We love it out there in the middle of nowhere.

Alec really, really loves riding his dirt bike.

A four foot alligator was spotted in our neighborhood lake a few times last fall.  Imagine our surprise when we just happened to walk to the lake on the evening a professional gator catcher was called in to catch him!  It was very exciting! IMGP8510w

I got the Canon 5d markii in late October - great decision!  I took this butterfly pic the first day I had it with my 50mm 1.4.

Alec got his learner’s permit – kind of scary!

more christmas

I really love having a neighbor who loves photography as much as me.  It’s great having a “real life” photography friend!  Her name is Susan and she is one of the kindest, most giving people I’ve met.  She came by the evening before Christmas Eve to show me the Canon 24-70L lens she rented for 10 days.  I was excited just to see it in person, but she insisted that I keep it for all of Christmas Eve since she didn’t really need it until Christmas Day.  Don’t you wish Susan was your neighbor?!!  You can visit her blog here.

So my shots from Christmas Eve were taken with this awesome lens.  It was nice to be able to get more of the scene.  I’m not sold on buying it because of the cost, but I sure had fun with it!  Here are the boys opening one gift before we headed out to visit family.  I took these at 25mm, but I did crop in a little when I edited.

We visited G’s parents and went to a Christmas Eve service at their church.  Then we stopped by my parents’ house for a little while.

See how you can get so much of the room at 24mm.

My mom made us homemade vanilla shakes.  Alec grabbed my camera and took a few of me enjoying mine zoomed in at 70mm.

And then on Christmas Day, I was back to using my 50mm 1.4. (in bad lighting)

christmas fun with lots of cousins

We spent the day before Christmas Eve with my first in laws, the W family.  Since I haven’t yet written an “about me”, I should explain that my first husband died when our boys were one and three back in 1998.  I married G five years later and he became a wonderful dad to Alec and Mason.  The W family treats him like he’s their son in law.  So we had a great time with our big family with lots of kids running around and lots of pictures to take!

We sang carols and the children acted out the Christmas story as Papa read it out loud.

Alec was a little worried at first that there was an actual snuggie in this box.  He was relieved to discover a Dr. Pepper t-shirt instead.IMG_6039e46wbw

I gave L and N a photo book of all 11 of their grandchildren.  After all, I have tons of pictures of them.

Christmas

For unto us a son is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

santa pics

While looking through old photos at Gary’s parents’ house, I found a very familiar looking photo of him and Santa.  I looked through my mom’s old pics and found one of me in the same scene.  What a coincidence!!  Mine was taken in 1969 when I was three.  I think his was in 1968 when he would have been four.  For some reason Goudchaux’s decided the North Pole was much further away in 1969.
