this or that thursday: butterflies

The monarch butterfly has been very difficult for me to find this year. I haven't seen one yet, but I did find a gulf fritillary once again.



And I also captured this pretty blue and black one whose name I don't know. Neither butterfly would let me get close so I had to take my shots from a little distance.









There are just a few rules.

    Deb, these are wonderful shots. Your butterflies are so crisp and sharp. We haven't had many butterflies around here this year. They are beautiful aren't they?

    These are gorgeous! We just set out class' caterpillars turned butterflies free - the kids loved watching them fly around!

    Good morning Deb! I love these butterfly captures. They are lovely. Very hard to photograph since they are on a constant move. I have some photos I caught once of an amazing butterfly. I found it in perfect condition, but dead, and it was a great model for me on all sorts of flowers. These are lovely though. Thanks for sharing!

    Oh Deb, these are beautiful! I've seen a few monarchs in our yard this year, but I never have my camera with me when they show up. :(

    Those are so pretty Deb!! I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen a butterfly around here- and I didn't have my camera at the ready. Really love seeing these- takes me to a peaceful place.

    Oh I haven't seen an monarchs either since early spring, just the frittilary. Love the capture of him frozen in flight! And the last one is a long tailed skipper - they are beauties. I have a ton of them a couple of summers ago and really haven't seen any since. I'm sure this drought hasn't helped at all!

    Beautiful photos, I can't choose a favourite :) We had a huge butterfly in our yard on the weekend but my kids charging around scared it off before i got a good shot, lol
