a look back

This is the first year in quite a while that I don't have a child who's going trick or treating. (For a look back at last year's halloween which also happens to be my very first post click here.)

A couple of years ago, I went back and scanned all my favorite photos starting when Alec was born so I can easily find and enjoy them.

Here they are at one and three. This was not a happy year for us since their dad had just died in September. I can barely remember that time, so I'm glad I have the photos. They sure were cute as a fireman and dalmatian.
1998
The next year we had a batman and superman...
1999

Then we had two Scooby Doos...
2000
In 2001 I attempted to be crafty after seeing the instructions in Martha Stewart Living for making robots. I am not crafty and I don't enjoy crafts, but I admit the robots were kind of fun to make and they were a big hit!
2001

I'm looking forward to passing out candy and seeing all the cute costumes in the neighborhood this year!

this or that thursday

First, I want to say thanks to everyone who's been linking up! Going through all the entries each week is so much fun. I am enjoying all of the amazing photography. Each week I am inspired to try to be a better photographer... and that's what this is all about.

I have a few more to share this week from a recent walk through the woods on a beautiful new trail.

First I focused on the little curly vine...

Then I focused on the leaf behind.

I didn't want to leave out the green leaves.

And I found a few tiny wildflowers too.

It's time to link up what you want to share this week! There are just a few rules.
  • submit the url of your blog post, not your home page
  • link up a photo that was taken by you
  • include a link back to my blog in your post (you can use the button or a text link if you prefer)
  • visit a few other blogs and leave some comment love
Okay, now let's see what you've been shooting!

i like autumn

There is a wonderful new trail behind my boys' school. I went on a walk with my macro lens hoping to find some fall color. Now if I only showed you my macro photos you may think that Louisiana has a colorful autumn, but that's not really so. True, we do have a few trees here and there whose leaves change to beautiful autumn colors, but for the most part there is still lots of green in the woods.

You can find the color if you look real close.

I have to ask... does my post title make anyone else think of that Barney song? Even after 10 years that song is still stuck in my head!

i heart faces: let them be little

Brinkley is my littlest niece. We both really like our popcorn, especially when peanut m&ms are mixed in...

pumpkin patch

We went to a wonderful pumpkin patch over the weekend. This one is in a beautiful location surrounded by gorgeous live oaks.

Along with the pumpkins, there were some fun and colorful gourds...

this or that thursday

Today I'm sharing photos of a beautiful old fence that I found at a cemetery. It happens to be the same place I found the butterflies from last week.

And one more of the lovely butterflies that I found fluttering near the fence...

time to shave

The other day Alec looked at Mason and told him he needed to shave.  Mason asked me if he could and I said, "Sure, go ahead."  Alec told him he would show him how. I grabbed my iPhone and followed them to take some pics, of course!

All of you that have those little babies and toddlers, believe me, this happens faster than you think. They were two little boys playing with cars and trucks on the floor not too long ago and now they're shaving...

I love these photos even if they are kind of poor quality and I'm thankful that they are such good brothers to each other.

They were taken with my old iPhone 3GS. I upgraded to the new iPhone last weekend.  The camera is much better on the 4S so maybe I'll start using it more. For those of you wondering if the upgrade is worth it, I must say the voice recognition is incredible! I may never type a text message again! I love how you can ask her to remind you about things throughout the day.  And you can ask her just about anything. If she doesn't know the answer, she'll send you to a google search to find out. And she actually understands you!

shades of autumn: yellow

This week's color is yellow so I made sure to stop and take some pics of these yellow wildflowers that are blooming all over the place right now... they are such a pretty sight!

this or that thursday: butterflies

The monarch butterfly has been very difficult for me to find this year. I haven't seen one yet, but I did find a gulf fritillary once again.

And I also captured this pretty blue and black one whose name I don't know. Neither butterfly would let me get close so I had to take my shots from a little distance.

There are just a few rules.
  • submit the url of your blog post, not your home page
  • link up a photo that was taken by you
  • include a link back to my blog in your post (you can use the button or a text link if you prefer)

a couple of firsts

Sawyer is the youngest boy cousin in our family. He is playing tackle football for the first time this fall. He is just so cute in his uniform!

Can you believe I shot this at f/32? I don't think I've ever used such a small aperture before, but this time it was required so that the little football players wouldn't be too blurry. I manually focused on the fence because my auto focus was having a hard time finding it.

Here he is carrying the ball. He did an awesome job!

Alec is the oldest boy cousin. He and his best friend both got their drivers licenses on the same day this week. It was fun that they got to do it together. And yes, I'm nervous about the whole thing. He took Mason to basketball practice yesterday. It was very strange watching them drive off without me. Of course, the school is only one minute from our house so I didn't have too much to worry about this time...
