project life class: day by day

Along with the rest of the Studio Calico Project Life Creative Team members, I'll be sharing a project life spread and tips for my process of putting together each week for the January class at Studio Calico.

You only have until December 31 at midnight Eastern time to sign up so don't wait! The class is going to be amazing with lots of tutorials, a stamp set, cut files and printables and a private message board too. Go here to sign up!

I'll also be sharing my 2013 cover page. Here are a few sneaks...

The tutorial I'm looking most forward to is by Suzy Plantamura. She's going to show us how she creates her amazing doodles. Look at how fun they are!!

I hope to see you in the classroom!

project life: week 46 with studio calico block party

The Studio Calico January kits, Block Party, have been revealed! I am very excited to be using the Studio Calico Project Life kits for my albums this year. The first kit was just amazing! It is sold out, but you can still get on the wait list to receive February's kit. I have seen it and it is just as awesome!!

The January Project Life Design Team gallery is live at Studio Calico so be sure and check it out to see all the different ways the team used the kit. We each made one layout using only the Project Life kit, and a lot of us made additional layouts using the main kit, the card kit and/or some of the add ons along with the Project Life kit. The card kit was especially fun to use because the smaller scale of the papers is perfect for Project Life.

Here's my week 46 layout which is my layout using only the Project Life kit. I love the woodgrain labels and one of my favorite cards was the dotted pattern under the 'on my walk' photo. That same pattern can be found on paper in the main and card kit too!

I will share the other two layouts I made with the Block Party kits soon, or you can see them in my gallery at Studio Calico!

this or that thursday: family

I've been wanting to take a family photo and we finally did it last weekend... but now it's a little late to be sending Christmas cards so I guess I'll just share it with all of you. I usually use a tripod to get a family pic in December, but this time I set up the camera and had my dad take it while we were visiting. He only took seven shots (I take way more!), but luckily we got one I liked.

I hope you all are enjoying the holidays! We had a nice Christmas and I'm enjoying having all my guys off from school/work for a little while!

It's time to link up again... I'd love to see what you've been shooting! There are just a few rules.
  • submit the url of your blog post, not your home page
  • link up a photo that was taken by you
  • include a link back to my blog in your post (you can use the button or a text link if you prefer)
  • visit a few other blogs and leave some comment love
Okay, just link up below!

studio calico january kit sneaks

I'm excited to show you some more sneaks of my Project Life layouts made with the January kits from Studio Calico! I used the main scrapbook kit, the card kit, add on 3 and the project life kit. It was so much fun working with the kits for the first time to put together my project life spreads!! I've been doing project life for three years now and in the past I've only used core kits with just a small amount of other embellishments thrown in. The project life kit for January is sold out for now (although there's a chance they will be making more). If you want to get on the waiting list for February you can sign up here. I will also be using the card kit each month. The smaller scale of the patterned papers is perfect for project life!

These first two are from my project life only spread.

And these are from a mixture of the other kits I ordered...

Reveal will be at midnight this Thursday Eastern time! And don't forget if you want to sign up for the Day by Day class the deadline is December 31.

merry christmas with some scrapbooking

We are almost there! I'm up early on Christmas Eve and looking forward to all the festivities the next two days will bring! But before Christmas is over I wanted to share some layouts I made recently with the Basic Grey Aspen Frost line. I loved all the colors and patterns and had such fun working with this line...

I didn't do a whole lot of Christmas scrapping this year because I spent most of my time in November and December working on my December Daily that you can see most of here and here. And I worked on my Project Life layouts with the new Studio Calico Project Life kit. They will be revealed at Studio Calico this Thursday at midnight Eastern time!

I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas!

day by day at studio calico

It's time for another class at Studio Calico! Day by Day is all about documenting the everyday with Project Life. The class is $29 and can be purchased here until December 31. The Project Life Creative Team will be sharing tutorials on such topics as adding type to photos in PSE, getting photos from your phone to your computer, making journaling cards with stamp brushes, using your Silhouette, and the one I'm most looking forward to -- doodling and coloring with Suzy Plantamura! See the complete list of topics on the class sign-up page. Also, each team member will share their approach to building a Project Life layout from start to finish. And a few of us will be sharing our 2013 cover pages.

With the purchase of the class, you will receive this awesome stamp set while supplies last. {love those days of the week stamps!}

And everyone who signs up will have access to a fun collection of printables and die cut files. I'm showing you just a few, but you can see the rest here.

Registration for the class ends on December 31 and class begins on January 1 so don't wait too long! Studio Calico is giving away a spot in the class today on their blog so be sure and stop by for a chance to win! (If you're the lucky winner your class fee will be refunded.)

I saved my favorite card from the January Project Life kit for my 2013 cover page. I'm not done yet... still need some more photos, but here's a little peek.

this or that thursday: ornaments

It's hard to believe Christmas will be here in less than a week! December is always a busy month, but this one has been even busier than usual. And lots of fun too! I'm sharing a few photos of the ornaments on my tree today. When I edited these photos, I used some of the actions from the Inspired Collection at My Four Hens. I rarely use actions, but when I do these are my favorites...

It's time to share your photos again! There are just a few rules.

  • submit the url of your blog post, not your home page
  • link up a photo that was taken by you
  • include a link back to my blog in your post (you can use the button or a text link if you prefer)

studio calico and project life

I've been holding in some exciting news for a little while now, so I am very happy to announce that I will be on the 2013 Studio Calico Project Life Creative Team!! I was thrilled when Becky Higgins announced she was partnering with Studio Calico to bring us monthly Project Life kits. What could be better?! My two favorite scrapbooking companies partnering together... a new kit each month full of cards and fun embellishments from the company that knows how to put together an amazing kit month after month... sign me up!!

Then when I was asked to be on the new Project Life Creative Team, I was beyond excited. My time on Becky Higgins' Creative Team was coming to an end so I was feeling a little sad, but this totally made up for it. I am so looking forward to working with the Studio Calico kits each month!

Head over to the Studio Calico blog to read the announcement and get to know all of the fabulous new team members! Or if you just can't wait to see all the sneaks for January's kits, you can go right here (or check out below)!

I've been having so much fun working with January's kit. If you have signed up, you will not be disappointed! This has been so much fun and I am loving it!

Here are some sneaks of what I've been doing so far...

Be sure to follow me on instagram (username debduty). I'll be sharing more sneaks this month and every month!

this or that thursday: playing with lights

I'm happy to say I now have a fully decorated tree and I've even bought one present! I also had fun this week taking pictures of my neighbor's colorfully lit tree. I used the method described here to get shaped bokeh. Then I used one of the magic textures by Kim Klassen. They are available at the bottom of this post. Just be sure to add it to your photo as a screen blending mode if you try it. I love the chalkboard-like effect these textures have...
