elmwood park layouts

Once again I loved my Studio Calico kit. July's kit, Elmwood Park, had lots of bright colors and fun embellishments. I wasn't sure if I would like the navy paper, but it ended up being one of my favorites. I used it for a background on one layout and used the leftovers for borders on a few more. I've been very busy and so far I've made 11 layouts with July's kit! Here are just a few of them...

this or that thursday: gulf fritillary butterfly

This little butterfly was flying around my zinnias last week. The good thing about the gulf fritillary is that they are not too camera shy. They will usually stick around for a little while even while you're hovering over them with a camera.

So I was able to get a couple of shots before he decided to fly away...

What have you capture lately? If you'd like to share, we'd love for you to join in! There are just a few rules.

scrapbooking vacations

After getting home from vacation last month I had a ton of new pictures that I was excited to scrap. I really love making layouts when the memories are fresh. The journaling comes more easily that way, plus there are details that I'm able to include that I just wouldn't remember later on. So I've done a lot of scrapping of our trip. I shared a few of those layouts here. I still have a few more that I'll be sharing soon.

I think I've made most of the layouts that I want to make for the Utah trip, but I have lots of photos from the past few summer vacations that I haven't scrapped at all. So I went back and made some layouts of these happy memories too. I do love being on vacation and it's one of my favorite subjects to scrapbook...

I haven't given up on my challenge to myself to make a layout every day in July. I'm almost done and I have a lot of layouts to show for it. :) By the way, I'm blogging over at Write. Click. Scrapbook. today about using instagram and pixlr-o-matic to spruce up your less than awesome photos. Click here to check it out.

project life: week 27

Week 27 was busy with lots of fun going on -- swimming, July 4th, playing some Mario Brothers. I had three small instagrams that I wanted to include about playing Mario, but since only two will fit in a 4x6 slot I was trying to figure out which one to leave out when I realized I could borrow some space from the slot next door! So this is how it all came together for Project Life this week...

soft flower colors

This little mum has such beautiful colors, but I'm afraid I can't name them. Are they pink? purple? lavender? maybe even a bit of fuchsia? or probably a mixture of all of the above and then some? I wish my photoshop color picker would give me a name for each color I click on, but oh well. I still enjoy seeing what colors I find. There are always a couple that surprise me in each image.

Just so you know these aren't the actual real life flower colors... they were a bit darker. This is my version using the sunny sweets action from M4H. If you would like to see its real life colors, it's the last flower in this post.

from sketch to layout

I love the sketch this month at Write. Click. Scrapbook. It's perfect for scrapping your instagram pictures! The sketch was based on a fabulous layout by Marie Taylor.

I figured I would use instagrams for my layout, but instead I decided to make a layout about an afternoon of swimming with cousins. And I actually used my big camera this day! The supplies used were from Studio Calico's July kit, Elmwood Park. I made the collage with a free template from Persnickety Prints

Check out other interpretations of the sketch today over at Write. Click. Scrapbook.

this or that thursday: cadillac ranch

If you ever find yourself on Interstate 40 just west of Amarillo, be sure to take the service road and stop at Cadillac Ranch. There you will find ten Cadillacs buried nose first in a field. It was created as an art exhibit in 1974 by a group of artists from San Francisco hired by a local billionaire, Stanley Marsh 3. Many tourists stop there every day and most bring cans of spray paint. The graffiti doesn't last long. There is always someone right behind you to cover your art with his own creation.

We didn't bring any paint, but the boys did find some cans that weren't used up all the way so they could add just a bit to all that wet paint. It was fun to walk around and look at the barely recognizable Caddies for a little while, a nice break from our long drive.

And now it's your turn to share whatever you'd like. There are just a few rules.

project life: week 26

I'm sharing week 26 today, another awesome summer week! There were more fun times with cousins, my crepe myrtle started blooming and summer basketball wrapped up. The highlight of the week was my nephew's first time to ride the dirt bike. He's been patiently waiting and watching his brothers and cousins ride for a long time and he was happy it was finally his time. He loved it and he did great!

butterfly colors

Remember my butterflies from a few weeks ago? Well, I've been looking so forward to making color collages with these images. The multitude of colors did not disappoint. Just look at the gorgeous colors I found in their wings, the flowers, oh and my iphone case too!

I even made a layout to document the amazing experience of watching them change from caterpillars to butterflies...

this or that thursday: polaroids

Just for fun I used polaroid frames with some swimming pics from last week. You can download the frames here. You will also find a photoshop tutorial on how to use the frames at the same link. I shouldn't have waited so long to figure out how to use them. It's really pretty easy!

Before I added the frames I ran a cross process action on the photos at about 75% to make them look a bit more vintage. World's Best Actions has some great free actions here for this kind of look.

And this is the result of a lot of fun in the pool, some polaroid frames and a cross processing action...
